CUSTOMS;HEADQUARTERS MONITORING TEAM INTERCEPTS SMUGGLED FROZEN POULTRY PRODUCTS by olusegun Ariyo

                                                                                  


                                                                                                    
Following the renewed onslaught against smuggled frozen poultry products as a way of protecting  federal government trade policy  and encouraging our local investors, the Headquarters Monitoring team  at the Idiroko Axis, on Tuesday 30th June, 2015 intercepted eight hundred and ten (810) cartons of smuggled poultry products.



This, according to Deputy Comptroller Yahaya Biri Usman, whilst conducting some selected team of journalists round the seizure, said his team has an effective synergy and collaboration with the resident Units and Commands of the Nigeria Customs Service within that route that is having boarder patrol responsibility primarily and to which their synergy has remained formidable, where he said his team are better sustained with these collaboration of the command unit of idiroko in ensuring  its  ameliorate  to barest minimum, the menace of smuggling in the country.


The Coordinator expressed  determination of its team to explore more avenues of ensuring practical compliance with the Headquarters directive on zero tolerance for smuggled poultry products. He maintained that the anticipated launch of Operation Hawk Descended  by the Customs will further boost the operational pedigree of the team towards ensuring that fiscal policies of the Federal Government in terms of  the sustained trade and investment in the country is jealously guided. He confirmed that his team alongside others are fully and functionally equipped to tackle the hydra headed monster of smuggling and vowed that he will stop at nothing until sustainable success is achieved.


While fielding questions on the fate of the seized poultry products, the Coordinator said those seized items will be destroyed and buried in a designated site at the Nigerian Custom Service premises in Ikeja, under the watch of critical agencies of  the Government that  includes  NAFDAC.



He called on Nigerians to support the Nigeria Customs Service in its Anti-smuggling crusade by providing the Authority with useful and genuine information that will aid on how to track smugglers and their illicit transactions. He expressed satisfaction with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko Inde and his Management for the enormous support given to the team. He assured the media that he will continually do everything humanly possible to justify the confidence reposed in the team.
